Brief Profile of Dr. Ramasastri AS

Dr Ramasastri is presently the Director of IDRBT, Institute for
Development and Research in Banking Technology. In his present
capacity, he is leading important technology related research in the
areas of cyber security, payment systems, cloud computing, analytics
and financial inclusion. He has been in the forefront of exploratory
research for the use of new technologies like blockchain and 5G. He
has been actively supporting the activities of banks’ CIOs, CISOs and
CAOs forum as well as FinTechs forum.


He is also the Chairman of IFTAS, a company promoted by IDRBT for
managing services like INFINET and SFMS, which are critical for
national payment systems like RTGS and NEFT. He is on the boards of
Bandhan Bank, IDBI Infotech, DSCI, IIBF and SETS.


Prior to taking over IDRBT, Ramasastri has been CGM-in-Charge of
Department of Information Technology in Reserve Bank of India, where
he spearheaded projects like next gen RTGS, automated data flow and
adoption of international standards like XBRL and ISO 20022.


He is a member of the IT Sub-Committee of the RBI board as also the
standing committee on cyber security. He is member of several
technology advisory groups of the RBI.


Dr Ramasastri holds PhD from IIT, Madras. He did his graduation and
post-graduation in Statistics from University of Madras, topping the
university. He authored two books in the area of Finance, and one of
them was published in Chinese too. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the
Journal on Banking Technology.
